Established in 1897 by John Surtees Gedge, JS Gedge started out by selling push bikes from our Silchester Road Showroom. Push bikes soon turned into the 1st motorcycles and we have never looked back.
John's son David Gedge then joined the family business and sold motorcycles from this branch followed by his son Trevor Gedge the current Managing Director.
The Hastings Honda Centre in Ore village opened in the 1960s followed by the acquisition of the Pevensey Bay branch in the 70s which now sells Honda's
Last year we Celebrated 60 Years with Honda making us one of the longest serving Honda dealers in the country.
We have full sales, servicing, clothing and training facilities in both of our branches and as well as celebrating our 126th anniversary this year, we have also recently achieved a Best Sales Experience (South) and Approved Pre-Owned Motorcycles – Dealer of the Year 2022 award along with two 1st Place awards from Honda for Customer Satisfaction in Sales and Aftersales. Along with our other various awards from Triumph and Honda.

MOTORCYCLE SERVICING
We offer a variety of services such as regular maintenance, repairs, and MOT's. Customers can bring in their motorcycle for a service appointment and we will diagnose and fix any issues. We use high-quality parts and techniques to ensure the motorcycle is running smoothly and safely after the service is completed.

BY JOHN SURTEES GEDGE
First established all the way back in 1897 by John Surtees Gedge, we began as a humble cycle manufacturer and seller of Rudge Witworth cycles. We created a small shop, with a friendly atmosphere basing our service around you - the customer. We aimed to exceed expectations, delivering above and beyond for anyone who entered our doors.
John's son, David Gedge then took over in 1947 selling at 1st Bicycles and the Cycle Master, a pedal-less cycle with a small engine attached. This was a huge deal, moving towards the first motorcycle sale we made. We moved onwards and upwards, selling Norman Nippy bikes, followed by NSU Quickly and Garelli bikes, along with PUCH and many others.
David took the next step to import a new breed of machine from Japan in 1961 and in 1962, we became a Honda dealer making us the oldest Honda dealer in the UK, at the same time as Lambretta scooters.
In 1969, the current managing director, Trevor Gedge took over and we took on the Suzuki franchise. Shortly after in 1971, we became Yamaha dealers and began selling Vespa scooters, bringing the popular Italian craze over.
1975 fast approached and we started up a new branch, our Pevensey Bay store, selling Kawasaki and BMW motorcycles. The store showed our teams diverse approach, as we managed to keep calm under the moving pressure and expand.
We further expanded in 1986 after a successful growth into our new Pevensey Bay branch. We opened our new Hastings Honda centre in Ore Village, delivering the first franchise motorcycles we ever took on. Since then, we continued to grow and move up, we've had the Moto Guzzi franchise, then in 1998 we started selling Triumph motorcycles in our original St Leonards store.
Andrew Gedge joined the business in 2004 to work full time, solidifying the status of us being a family-owned business in the same premises and same family since 1897, making us the oldest dealer in the world.
That's where we're at today, a solid running family business that still holds the values that started us dear. We aim to exceed and bring a service entirely unequalled, that's our promise. After 125 years of doing just that, we've got confidence in our service.
